About us

Our vision

We believe the only way to create exciting, entrepreneurial futures is to accept and face up to change as part of life. Work with MacIntyre Hudson and you'll have the benefit of the technical skills and expertise you would expect from chartered accountants combined with the commercial sense of business advisers to support you on your journey.

Like you, a lot of our time is spent dealing with the present, and clearing space to deal with the future takes a focused effort. So when we say: The future is what you make it, we are doing two things.

Firstly, we are challenging ourselves to be a confident, proactive organisation with a relationship with our clients that works like this: you are in control of your own affairs, but we are on hand to offer support and guidance.

Secondly, we are putting out a clear signal that we have brought our services closer to you, and restructured them to bring real value to your business.

MacIntyre Hudson not only offers a full range of services, our firm wide industry teams are committed to stay on top of what is happening in the market place to give you the best possible advice. They are industry experts who understand the dynamics of each sector well, who know the challenges you face and can see the bigger picture.

To do a good job we not only need to understand your business inside out, we want to know what makes you tick - what keeps you awake at night, what gives you a kick, even your personal aspirations. We'll then probe, comment, confront you with new ideas, propose changes, and sometimes recommend that you leave things as they are - as long as it is an informed choice. We earn your trust by achievements and results, and we want to turn that trust into a long-lasting, genuine and professional relationship.

But in the final analysis, it comes down to one of us face to face with you. You get to know and see the same Principal and team each year, providing essential continuity and allowing us to develop a deeper understanding of your business year on year. MacIntyre Hudson’s Principals also provide you with a gateway to our local and firm-wide expertise and international support when you need it.

Our history

The firm was founded in 1880 and was one of the 587 firms that joined together to form the original 'Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales'. Robert Hamilton MacIntyre and John Farrer Hudson became partners in the firm in the 1920's - their photographs remain in our archives.

As is common in our profession, we have opened offices, closed offices, merged and demerged many times since then. We even opened a Paris office in 1928 which remained until the sixties, when legislation made it no longer viable. Our most recent mergers were in 1998 with the nine partner practice, Hughes Allen, which re-established the name of MacIntyre Hudson in the City of London and brought us an office in Chelmsford, in 2007 when our Leicester office merged with Moore Stephens Leicester, doubling the firm’s business in the area, and most recently in London where our City office merged with the London office of MGI Midgley Snelling.

Since we were founded, we have worked with clients in almost all industry sectors, from cheese-cutter manufacturing to broadband broadcasting and transatlantic sailing. But most have one thing in common: they are owner-managed and entrepreneurial businesses like us.
