Our 125 years of growth and innovation

Birthday cake and candles have been the order of the day – as partners and staff have gathered to celebrate our 125 th anniversary.

Chairman and partner, Dick Panter, said: “We are delighted and proud to be celebrating this very special anniversary. The MacIntyre Hudson culture is very much a forward-thinking one, whilst still having roots in a tradition of attention to detail and excellent customer service. This will, undoubtedly, stand us in good stead for the next 125 years!”

The partnership we now know as MacIntyre Hudson has come a long way since it became a founder member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in May 1880.

Originally known as Barnes & Attree, we have had a number of name changes over the years - becoming MacIntyre Hudson Gouldie Wilson and Co in 1924.

Four years later and our name was shortened to MacIntyre Hudson & Co, and, in the same year, this newly-named partnership opened a new office in Paris.

Back in those formative years, the MacIntyre Hudson client list included Hide and Skin Brokers, Warehousemen of Knitting Wools and Ladies’ Hat Manufacturers.

MacIntyre Hudson has its roots in an age of innovation and ideas. When Messrs. Barnes & Attree first started their business in 1880, Thomas Edison’s light bulb was the very latest in technology; telephones were becoming available in Britain for the first time, and work was just beginning on constructing the Panama Canal.

This was also the year that saw the first test match played in England. Held at the Kennington Oval, the match saw England beat Australia by five wickets, with WG Grace scoring the first Test century on the ground.

Dick added: “We have certainly come a long way since our beginnings in 1880 and now have a proactive organization which is helping a huge variety of business clients face the future with confidence. Here’s to another 125 years!”
