Budget 2011 response: IR35 meaningless measures

MacIntyre Hudson, the top 20 accountancy firm, has reacted strongly to the lack of real measures on IR35.

Tax Principal, Nigel May, was unequivocal in his analysis: "A helpline, 'better trained' people to investigate and a focus on 'higher risk areas' are meaningless measures.

"While it means that some companies can perhaps breathe more easily, knowing that they probably won't be checked, this doesn't solve the IR35 problem. It should have been scrapped and a real test to determine whether someone is employed introduced instead."
