Simon Barber

Audit & Accounts Director

Simon is an Audit and Accounts Director at MHA MacIntyre Hudson.

Simon joined MHA MacIntyre Hudson in January 2013 following the merger with HMT Assurance LLP.  He joined HMT from KPMG in 2009 having had fourteen years of experience dealing with a wide variety of businesses in the Owner Managed Business group. This included privately owned SMEs together with subsidiaries of large listed groups. During his time with MHA MacIntyre Hudson and HMT, he has managed a portfolio of audit clients in a number of different sectors.

Simon has a broad portfolio of audit clients including a number of groups with overseas subsidiaries.  He has been on a number of client secondments to assist with conversion to, and reporting under, IFRS and FRS 102.  He also specialises in the valuation of share options and purchase price allocation exercises.

Prior to joining KPMG, Simon spent a few years working in industry as management accountant for a privately owned group of printing companies.

Andrew Leal

Partner

Andrew joined MHA MacIntyre Hudson in April 2019 following the merger with Kent based accountancy practice Percy Gore & Co, where he had been a partner since 1990. Andrew has a has a diverse portfolio in the healthcare sector comprising a range of GP Practices, Locum GP’s, GP Federations, Dentists, Hospital Consultants and other healthcare professionals.

Andrew regularly lectures and runs seminars on Primary Care finance.

Outside of work, Andrew is actively involved with his local church and enjoys running and sailing.

Liz Newell

Partner

Liz joined MHA MacIntyre Hudson as a Partner in January 2020 as part of the merger with Keens Shay Keens MK.

She is a fully qualified accountant with 18 years of experience and an impressive range of specialisms extending from motor trade to pharmaceutical sectors. She supports businesses that operate on a local, national and international scale, including working with overseas companies to establish subsidiaries here in the UK. She helps her clients prosper through business growth, strengthening governance and securing investments. Liz is also the firm’s ATOL practitioner.

Liz also holds several positions within the Milton Keynes community.  She is Trustee and Treasurer of Milton Keynes City Orchestra and a Director of Biztech Technology Forum.  She is also a member of the MK Business Council and she provides financial guidance to the board of DestinationMK.  In 2015, Liz received the Women Leaders MK Award for Professional Services.

James Mackie

Restructuring & Recovery Manager

James joined the firm at the end of 2008, just 2 months after the restructuring and recovery division of MacIntyre Hudson was founded. He obtained the Certificate of Proficiency in Insolvency in 2012 and currently manages one of three corporate insolvency teams, looking after a team of 6 with a combined portfolio of approximately 160 cases.

James is a member of the Insolvency Practitioners Association. James has worked with a wide variety of clients and situations, including:

  • Assisting with the administration of a firm of accountants with 4 offices covering North London. James assisted with the sale of the  business and the forensic examination of over 40 bank accounts.
  • Assisting with a solvent liquidation that has realised over £15 million from the sale of assets in the period of the liquidation.
