Life at the Reading office

As one of the largest towns in the UK, Reading has plenty to offer. Set around the River Thames and the River Kennet, and surrounded by impressive Royal Berkshire countryside, it is easy to find green spaces to unwind in after enjoying the bustling shopping centre and lively bars. Our office is in a central location being a short walk from the station and only 10 minutes on foot to the main shopping centre. Even closer is King’s Meadow, a popular picnic spot with 12 acres of open fields and treelined avenues.

Reading is one of the smaller offices of MHA with around 28 members of staff – so everyone knows everyone! The office design is open plan across one floor to allow for effective communication within teams and across departments. We have a wide variety of experience and a mix of skill sets which keeps the teams dynamic and innovative. The range of ages and career levels represented in the office means that the environment is incredibly supportive as everyone aims to help those around them succeed. We actively maintain good relationships with our partners at all levels and continuously collaborate in the pursuit of our collective goals.

We are a friendly office with monthly socials as well as several sports teams. We believe that strong relationships are the foundation for success and participate in a variety of teambuilding activities from afterwork drinks to office outings. New team members find it easy to integrate into this fun atmosphere and many of our colleagues form lasting friendships.

We work with a range of clients from successful local companies to global multinational corporations. Due to excellent transport links, Reading is a key location for the technology sector and a hub for companies expanding internationally. We specialise in helping technology businesses and work closely on several global assignments together within our local network and our colleagues at Baker Tilly International.

We have grown significantly in the last few years and have ambitions to expand further within the Thames Valley. We are always keen to hear from outgoing individuals who are forward thinking and excited to work with a variety of interesting clients.

Gavin Davis

Partner

Gavin joined MHA MacIntyre Hudson in June 2018 and is the Partner who leads our Technology Advisory Services practice. He joined the firm from BDO LLP where he led the technology consultancy practice for more than five years. Gavin has more than 35 years of experience in the IT industry and, besides running his own IT consultancy business for ten years, has worked for some of the worlds largest IT companies including; Fujitsu, Dell, Capita, Ricoh and Atos.

As well as a formal training in Electronic Engineering, Gavin holds several industry qualifications including; MCSE, PRINCE2, ITIL and CISM. In previous roles Gavin has developed global IT consulting methodologies, delivered (and recovered) several large high-profile IT projects as well as managing large teams of consultants, engineers and project managers.

Technology Advisory Services provides a range of services to support business in the mid-market. In these businesses it is not uncommon to find the Finance Director (or other senior board member) responsible for IT. Gavin calls them “The Quasi IT Director” ® and typically they become reliant on junior IT staff or third-party IT support companies for strategic advice, which may not always be in the best interest of the company.

Gavin and his team are completely independent and can provide advice that is based around your business and specific requirements. Typical services include:

  • IT reviews to identify areas where IT might be causing issue around the business
  • Strategic IT advice, to help get the best out of your IT, both now and in the future
  • Application procurement support (specification and selection) and,
  • Outsource IT director services.

Gavin also supports the MHA MacIntyre Hudson Corporate Finance Mergers and Acquisitions teams by providing IT due diligence on both the buy and sell side.
