Helen Horton

Audit and Accounts Manager

Helen qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant in 2002. She now manages a portfolio of clients in the not for profit sector. 

During her accountancy life Helen has been involved in accounts preparation, audit and special regulatory audits and through this work came to be involved in the not for profit sector.

Helen’s portfolio comprises mostly of accounts and independent examination assignments.

Helen is also familiar with the Academies’ sector and the specific reporting regulations and deadlines that this particular sector brings.

She prides herself on offering support with reporting requirements as well as accounting and business matters generally as well as encouraging a supportive and communicative relationship.

Outside of work she enjoys spending time with her family, along with playing tennis and generally keeping fit.

Elaine Shoesmith

Partner

Elaine has more than 35 years experience  in the accountancy profession latterly as owner of Shoesmiths Chartered Accountants prior to joining Macintyre Hudson LLP as a full partner  following its merger in April 2016.

Elaine specialises in accounts, audit and advisory services for corporate owner managed businesses and foreign subsidiaries. Elaine has worked with a wide variety of businesses over her career including manufacturing, engineering, IT and renewables.

Elaine qualified initially with Robson Rhodes in Birmingham and then joined their London office.  After which a spell as a management accountant for an international logistics company gave her the necessary experience and background to then set up Shoesmiths Chartered Accountants which she ran successfully for 25 years . Clients ranged from high tech start ups to growing established SMEs.

Her experience and knowledge has enabled her to provide advice on more specialised areas including taxation across all sectors , taxation lead restructuring, management buy-outs , inheritance tax and succession planning. Her strengths lie in building close relationships with her clients , understanding their needs and working closely with them throughout their business cycle .

Jacqui Tyler

Senior Personal Tax Manager

Jacqui joined the firm from the then Inland Revenue in 1988 as a Tax Senior. From that date she has gained experience in dealing with all aspects of personal taxation and is now a Senior Manager who is responsible for her own portfolio of clients as well as overseeing the personal tax team in the Birmingham Office. 

With over 30 years’ experience in the profession Jacqui has gained a considerable knowledge in dealing with Private Client matters, including Inheritance Tax, Trust and Probate. Jacqui’s client base is varied ranging from High Net worth individuals, members of medical and legal partnerships to sole traders.         

Outside the office Jacqui spends her time planning and enjoying holidays, being either leisurely beach holidays or busy breaks exploring the cities of the World.

James Roe

Audit & Accounts Manager

James qualified as a chartered accountant in an independent, local five partner practice in 2002.  He now manages a mixed portfolio of specialist and commercial clients at our Birmingham office.

James has a number of clients in regulated areas of business, namely professional practices and travel, and appreciates the challenges regulations can create. His portfolio also includes a significant property group with a numerous of LLPs and limited companies, a hotel group and medium sized groups and companies requiring audits, together with small corporate and unincorporated clients seeking advice and support on year end accounts and tax compliance.

James serves on the Birmingham office Technical Committee, and is keen to keep up to date on developments within the industry. He is also a key team member in the running and training of the firm’s audit and accounts software.
