Our History

The firm now known as MHA MacIntyre Hudson dates back to 1880, though the current name did not appear until 1924 when Robert Hamilton MacIntyre and John Farrer Hudson became partners. But rather than take a detailed walk through the many mergers and acquisitions that led us to this point in the 21st century, let’s take the whistlestop tour.

A founding member of ICAEW

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales is a world-leading membership organisation that promotes, develops and supports more than 147,000 members worldwide. It’s the arbiter of ethical and technical standards in accounting. It was founded in the same year as MacIntyre Hudson, 1880, and our firm - then known as Barnes and Attree - was an original member. We continue to uphold its high standards in our own work.

Top 15 UK accountancy firm

Through almost 150 years of operations, our firm has continued to grow and remain strong. We are consistently named in the top 20 accountancy firm lists, ranked by revenue, despite being relatively small compared to many of the names on the list.

Networks bring strength and depth

We were a founding member of MHA, a national association of independent accountancy firms. MHA member firms are carefully selected and have a strong reputation for excellence and knowledge. We’re also the sole UK member of Baker Tilly International, a global network of independent accountancy and business advisory firms. BTI allows us to draw on internationally-recognised experts in 137 countries.
