Less than six months left for EU nationals to apply for settled status
The deadline for applications for the EU Settlement Scheme is 30 June 2021. As of 8 October 2020, there had been over 4 million applications of nearly 3.8 million had been granted.
EU nationals and their family members who obtain pre-settled or settled status will be able to continue living and working in the UK. Family members include spouses / civil partners, children, grandchildren or great grandchildren up to age 21.
EU citizens (including EEA and Swiss citizens) will need to apply even if they were born in the UK (but are not British citizens), have a family member who is a British citizen, or if they have a UK permanent residence document.
EU nationals who do not obtain pre-settled or settled status by 30 June 2021 will require sponsorship by an employer in order to work in the UK.
Settled status applications can be made online, via an app or over the phone. EU Nationals with children will need to make a separate application for them.
In certain circumstances, non-EU citizens (including EEA and Swiss citizens) may be able to apply for settled status e.g. if they had an EU family member in the UK who has died or the family relationship has broken down, or they are the primary carer for a British or EU national.
Since 24 August 2020, the family members of the people of Northern Ireland have also been able to apply for settled status. The same deadline for applications of 30 June 2021 applies.
