Our media and entertainment group understand both sides; they know what it takes to survive in the business called show, and they know how to survive in the world of finance, too. They’re involved with all aspects of the industry in the UK, and can provide extensive overseas support through our Baker Tilly International network. We deal with all aspects of film, television and theatre, advising on issues affecting each generation – from supporting those starting out, to comprehensive business management for those who have achieved success.
Our extensive expertise covers all aspects of self-employment, limited companies and partnerships. Our clients include actors, writers, comedians, presenters, composers, musicians, and opera singers, as well as producers, directors, choreographers, casting directors, designers and other behind-the-scenes practitioners.
Your business is truly unique, and it takes many people to keep you at the top of your game. We work closely with agents and managers, banks, independent financial advisers and mortgage brokers to give an all-round service to all our clients. We establish appropriate record keeping, utilising cloud accounting and apps – such as Xero and Receiptbank. We set up limited companies, run PAYE schemes, deal with all aspects of VAT registration, manage separately-designated client accounts for tax reserves, and much more.
We can deal with any tax issue. It’s not just about income and corporation tax; you also need to think about your National Insurance Contributions, VAT, inheritance tax and more.
Not from around here originally? We can advise about residency, deal with the Foreign Entertainers Unit, assist with tax credit applications, establish Enterprise Investment Schemes, help complete Double Tax Treaty forms, obtain Certificates of Coverage (A1/E101) – basically everything you will encounter as your career develops in the UK.
We work with and advise theatres, supporting internal accounting and touring production budgets. But there are many ways to support your income in the entertainment industry; we can also assist with applications for Arts Council and local authority funding, help you to maximise tax reliefs including for R&D, look at capital allowance claims, and many other matters. There’s always something new we can look into.
Our group also provides assurance services to theatres, agents and production companies, including financial, accountancy and tax solutions which are tailored specifically to a company’s requirements. We can conduct royalty audits, support start-ups and management buy-outs, advise on ownership succession and company valuations…
