Richard Maitland

Partner

Richard joined MHA MacIntyre Hudson in 2019 with 18 years of experience in the field of human capital, gained from his roles in the Big 4.

He leads the national employment tax team within our Human Capital Advisory practice, as well as specialising in national minimum wage issues.  

Richard has deep experience in the issues faced by employers across the key employment tax areas of payroll, expenses and benefits. He also specialises in employment tax status, an area which continues to present shifting and complex challenges to clients.

Richard helps employers design and implement flexible benefits programmes that support their recruitment and retention agendas. Richard has also worked with clients across the retail, gig economy and business services sectors in the field of national minimum wage compliance.

Angus Guyatt

Tax Director

Angus has over 15 years of tax experience and joined MHA MacIntyre Hudson in January 2013 following the merger with HMT Assurance LLP.

He joined HMT in 2007 having previously spent 7 years with KPMG in both tax and audit.

Angus has significant experience managing the tax reporting and compliance cycles of owner managed businesses, private equity backed businesses, inbound and public listed companies.

In addition, Angus advises on all corporate tax matters including transfer pricing, R&D and group restructuring.

Angus is also a school Governor and enjoys sculling at his local rowing club.

Howard Lewis

Partner

Links with the shipping industry forged early in Howard’s career and which continue today led to his interest in overseas businesses. For the last 20 years he has led the firm’s international development group and his connections with a multitude of advisors including members of Baker Tilly International, around the world, ensures that companies based overseas and trading in the UK and the firm’s clients taking their first steps into new markets are actively assisted. 

The international business development group links clients from the UK with Baker Tilly members throughout the world and clients referred from overseas are connected to the sector, service line and location that can most efficiently handle their affairs.

Our clients arriving in the UK from overseas are headquartered in all parts of the world but our highest concentrations have traditionally been the USA, Germany, Netherlands, Italy and Australia as well as from the original links with shipping, Greece. Activities undertaken are widespread covering all types of products and services as well as retail, distribution, wholesale and manufacturing. 

Having worked in the City of London for most of his career he is a Freeman and this demonstrates his continued and long term interest in the City. Howard is married to Leonie, the CEO of a communal volunteer organisation and both of them are actively involved in their local community and the promotion of inter faith relationships throughout London.

James Meek

Business Services Assistant Manager

James joined MHA MacIntyre Hudson in 2006 and has obtained both his AAT and ACA qualifications with the firm.  He is based in MHA MacIntyre Hudson’s Chelmsford office.

He works closely with many Not for Profit entities, including Charities and Academies, providing them with a range of business services, including Independent Examinations, accounts preparation and compliance returns.

James is a recognised financial reporting specialist in the Sector with a strong understanding of both the Charities SORP and the Academies Accounts Direction.  Drawing from this experience he built the internal accounts production toolkits the firm uses to produce Charity and Academy financial statements.  He has also advised on updates to external Charity and Academy accounts production toolkits and regularly consults with the ESFA on varying compliance matters, including taking part in user testing of new online systems.

James considers himself to be a problem solver and genuinely enjoys finding answers to complicated accounting issues.  He prides himself on delivering practical, timely and accurate advice to his clients in a language and manner they can understand. 

Outside of work James enjoys spending time with his family and trying to cook them a decent meal.
