Life at the Birmingham office

 

Birmingham office is located at the heart of the Colmore Business District in Birmingham city centre and is very close to the vibrant heart of the City.  Amenities close by include the Bull Ring Shopping Centre, The Mailbox, the National Indoor Arena, the Symphony Hall along with many bars, restaurants, clubs, cinemas, music venues and theatres.

Our office is a friendly and relaxed environment and the whole team are approachable.  We are open plan and located in a professional office building which is shared with one of the large legal firms.  New team members tell us that they find the office welcoming and easy to integrate into, they find it easy to make friends and build relationships.

We have approximately 55 people in the office, which means we are large enough to offer a wide range of services to our clients but small enough that people are treated as individuals.  We have a wide range of ages represented from 18 year-old trainees, through a large number of ‘twenty-somethings’ through to more experienced senior staff.

The team have an active social life and there are regular social get-togethers, either arranged at an office level, or informally by the team.

The Birmingham office is a growing office and there is a regular flow of new clients being brought on-board, particularly in the mid-corporate space, which adds interest to all of our lives.  There is a significant opportunity in Birmingham for us to grow our client base and get involved in interesting advisory projects due to the strength and size of the local economy and also the consolidation in the accounting market which has reduced the number of mid-tier competitors represented locally.

We are also increasingly getting involved with cross-office projects and working with our colleagues at Baker Tilly International on international work.  The Midlands is a hotspot for inward investment from countries such as the US, Canada, Germany and so on and therefore joined-up international advice is of increasing importance.

We are keen to recruit new team members who are driven and have an interest in being exposed to new challenges, new clients and new people, and indeed who want to help us grow the local business.

Neil joined as a manager in April 2019 following the merger of Kent based practice Percy Gore & Co.

He deals with a number of GP practices, small companies, business partnerships, sole traders and not for profit organisations.

Eoin Chawke

Audit Manager

Eoin is a Chartered Accountant and member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants with seven years’ experience of auditing investment funds, and is expert in the accounting and disclosure of IFRS and the audit implications.

His principle experience is ensuring fair presentation of Cayman hedge fund financial statements. Eoin manages a diverse base of client structures and he has a deep understanding of valuation methodologies for a wide range of financial instruments, including private equity, debt, credit instruments and derivatives.

Eoin manages audit teams to meet client deadlines and to maintain audit quality whilst serving a main point of contact for many key relationships.

Aaron Hawkins

Audit Manager

Aaron qualified as a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants in 2014 and joined MHA Macintyre Hudson 2019.

His experience includes managing a portfolio of clients across the UK and Europe in a variety of sectors including Logistics, Wholesale Foods and Manufacturing, as well as a variety of Not-For-Profit organisations.

With his friendly and approachable working style, he is a firm believer that regular liaising with clients throughout the year, not just at the year-end audit, is the key to providing excellent services and building long term relationships.

Steve Freeman

Head of Motor, Partner

Steve heads up our National Motor Sector Practice and motor Advisory Business out of our Milton Keynes office. He was previously a partner at PwC and EY and he also led a boutique motor specialist advisory firm where he worked with a number of motor dealers. Steve has grown our Motor Sector practice by bringing in sector experts and through engaging with manufacturers and owners of retail groups in a broad business dialogue, thereby finding ways to support them with their strategic, operational risk and tax compliance agendas, Steve’s audit portfolio includes Top 100 group's and many other dealer groups. He also leads a number of motor networks and forums, including The MHA Motor FD Forum and Berkhamsted Motor Club  meaning his clients and executives in the sector regard him as a trusted advisor.

Steve is a father of three children and he spends his weekends as either a coach to his son’s football team or as a taxi driver for either of his two daughter’s many extra-curricular activities.
