Life at the Birmingham office

 

Birmingham office is located at the heart of the Colmore Business District in Birmingham city centre and is very close to the vibrant heart of the City.  Amenities close by include the Bull Ring Shopping Centre, The Mailbox, the National Indoor Arena, the Symphony Hall along with many bars, restaurants, clubs, cinemas, music venues and theatres.

Our office is a friendly and relaxed environment and the whole team are approachable.  We are open plan and located in a professional office building which is shared with one of the large legal firms.  New team members tell us that they find the office welcoming and easy to integrate into, they find it easy to make friends and build relationships.

We have approximately 55 people in the office, which means we are large enough to offer a wide range of services to our clients but small enough that people are treated as individuals.  We have a wide range of ages represented from 18 year-old trainees, through a large number of ‘twenty-somethings’ through to more experienced senior staff.

The team have an active social life and there are regular social get-togethers, either arranged at an office level, or informally by the team.

The Birmingham office is a growing office and there is a regular flow of new clients being brought on-board, particularly in the mid-corporate space, which adds interest to all of our lives.  There is a significant opportunity in Birmingham for us to grow our client base and get involved in interesting advisory projects due to the strength and size of the local economy and also the consolidation in the accounting market which has reduced the number of mid-tier competitors represented locally.

We are also increasingly getting involved with cross-office projects and working with our colleagues at Baker Tilly International on international work.  The Midlands is a hotspot for inward investment from countries such as the US, Canada, Germany and so on and therefore joined-up international advice is of increasing importance.

We are keen to recruit new team members who are driven and have an interest in being exposed to new challenges, new clients and new people, and indeed who want to help us grow the local business.

Partner

Jay joined MHA MacIntyre Hudson in July 2015 following the merger with Birmingham based MHA Bloomer Heaven.  For over 25 years, Jay has built up a reputation for specialist tax advice to private companies and individuals. He is an experienced corporate financier and provides clients with strategic corporate finance advice, particularly targeted to entrepreneurs and owner managed businesses.  Jay has a particular focus on advising and undertaking tax planning for property developers and investors.

Away from work Jay is a keep fit fanatic and lover of all sports but especially rugby union and cricket. He is also a keen traveller and is embarking on working his way through the major cities of Europe before turning his attention on the Americas.

Patrick King

Tax Partner

Patrick is a Tax Partner and Chairman of MHA MacIntyre Hudson's Tax Steering Group as well as our national associations Tax Strategy Group, leading a team of specialists to ensure clients have access to the very best in compliance services and tax mitigation solutions. Patrick's own specialisms are capital tax planning for individuals, corporate restructuring, remuneration planning, profit extraction/repatriation and increasingly, international matters. He also advises clients on the tax implications of buying and selling their business. 

Patrick is a keen swimmer and occasional free diver,who still competes! He is an advocate of “anything worth doing, is worth doing well”.

Robert Butler

Audit and Accounts Director

Rob joined MHA MacIntyre Hudson in 2006 on the school leaver programme, gaining his AAT qualification before becoming a qualified chartered accountant in 2010. His main area of expertise is in statutory audits and accounts although he also have extensive experience in leading due diligence and forensic accounting projects.

Rob has built up a good rapport with his clients and prides himself on maintaining long standing relationships. He has worked with many of his clients for several years.

Rob works closely with Steve Freeman and leads our motor audits acting for several dealers across the country.

In his spare time he enjoys playing golf and keeping fit.

Tracey Mason

Independent Financial Adviser (IFA)

Tracey has been working as an adviser in financial services for 32 years, and currently looks after clients at the Peterborough office of MHA MacIntyre Hudson. She advises on general wealth management, and in particular pensions, IHT planning and VCT/EIS work.

Throughout her career, Tracey has worked alongside various Accountancy firms and now has a large portfolio of clients.

Outside of work, Tracey enjoys horse riding and is a qualified riding instructor. She is also a Divemaster and has trekked to Everest Base Camp.
