Life at the Birmingham office

 

Birmingham office is located at the heart of the Colmore Business District in Birmingham city centre and is very close to the vibrant heart of the City.  Amenities close by include the Bull Ring Shopping Centre, The Mailbox, the National Indoor Arena, the Symphony Hall along with many bars, restaurants, clubs, cinemas, music venues and theatres.

Our office is a friendly and relaxed environment and the whole team are approachable.  We are open plan and located in a professional office building which is shared with one of the large legal firms.  New team members tell us that they find the office welcoming and easy to integrate into, they find it easy to make friends and build relationships.

We have approximately 55 people in the office, which means we are large enough to offer a wide range of services to our clients but small enough that people are treated as individuals.  We have a wide range of ages represented from 18 year-old trainees, through a large number of ‘twenty-somethings’ through to more experienced senior staff.

The team have an active social life and there are regular social get-togethers, either arranged at an office level, or informally by the team.

The Birmingham office is a growing office and there is a regular flow of new clients being brought on-board, particularly in the mid-corporate space, which adds interest to all of our lives.  There is a significant opportunity in Birmingham for us to grow our client base and get involved in interesting advisory projects due to the strength and size of the local economy and also the consolidation in the accounting market which has reduced the number of mid-tier competitors represented locally.

We are also increasingly getting involved with cross-office projects and working with our colleagues at Baker Tilly International on international work.  The Midlands is a hotspot for inward investment from countries such as the US, Canada, Germany and so on and therefore joined-up international advice is of increasing importance.

We are keen to recruit new team members who are driven and have an interest in being exposed to new challenges, new clients and new people, and indeed who want to help us grow the local business.

Rebecca Orley

Tax Manager

Becky joined MHA MacIntyre Hudson in 2006 having spent the previous eight years gaining experience at two other top ten accountancy firms. She qualified as a Chartered Tax Adviser in 2001 and has almost 25 years’ experience.

Although she predominantly works on Private Clients, she is also involved with other matters such as corporation tax compliance, inheritance tax, trusts and probate, cash extraction, PAYE and the construction industry scheme. Becky has a varied client base ranging from high-net-worth individuals, corporate entities partnerships and sole traders.

Head of MHA Banking & Finance, Partner

Greg joined MHA Macintyre Hudson in January 2015 and heads-up MHA Banking & Finance, which is our in-house Commercial Finance Intermediary Service.

Greg has over 20 years commercial finance experience having worked in senior positions for both bank owned & independent finance houses.

He & his team work closely with a wide range of companies looking for access to finance, including owner-managed businesses, SMEs and Corporate Clients across multiple sectors.

Martin Ramsey

Partner

Martin joined MHA MacIntyre Hudson in 2017 having spent 16 years working in the assurance team of a top 5 firm and having been in the profession for 27 years.  Martin deals with a mixed portfolio of clients but has particular sector specialisms in healthcare and professional practices. 

In addition to his audit and accounting work Martin has been involved in many other areas of advice such as in the areas of client money accounting and the related regulatory issues, mergers and acquisitions particularly in the professional’s space, funding, business structuring and incorporations, benchmarking and so on.

Martin’s preferred way of working is through face to face client relationships where he has the opportunity to really understand the clients business and offer support and advice based on both the personal and corporate aspirations of the client.

Outside of work Martin is married with three children who keep him busy.  He is also a keen cyclist and enjoys a day’s fly fishing when the weather is fair.

Sudhir Singh

Head of Not for Profit, Partner

Sudhir is National Head of Not for Profit and an audit Partner based in MHA MacIntyre Hudson’s London City Office. He is a highly experienced Not for Profit specialist who has worked in the sector for 30 years. Prior to joining MHA MacIntyre Hudson, he was either the national sector head or a specialist Partner in three other top 20 accountancy practices.

He is a recognised expert in Not for Profit accounting, finance, governance, law and regulation, has served on several working parties, and is regularly asked to speak or write on these topics, He has strong links to sector bodies, regulators and other sector professionals.

His experience includes charities, independent schools, academies, free schools, further and higher education establishments, executive non departmental public bodies and other Not for Profit entities. He has particularly focused on advising complex and high-profile organisations, working with larger Not for Profits, having acted for over 25 top 250 registered charities, and using his extensive knowledge to provide practical solutions.

In June 2020, he was appointed onto the Council for the Royal College of Art and is a member of their Audit and Risk Committee. His personal sector commitment in a voluntary capacity extends over 30 years and has included being a member of the finance committee of a cathedral, Honorary Treasurer of ACEVO, Vice-Chairman of Governors at an independent school, and other trustee roles.
