Life at the Birmingham office

 

Birmingham office is located at the heart of the Colmore Business District in Birmingham city centre and is very close to the vibrant heart of the City.  Amenities close by include the Bull Ring Shopping Centre, The Mailbox, the National Indoor Arena, the Symphony Hall along with many bars, restaurants, clubs, cinemas, music venues and theatres.

Our office is a friendly and relaxed environment and the whole team are approachable.  We are open plan and located in a professional office building which is shared with one of the large legal firms.  New team members tell us that they find the office welcoming and easy to integrate into, they find it easy to make friends and build relationships.

We have approximately 55 people in the office, which means we are large enough to offer a wide range of services to our clients but small enough that people are treated as individuals.  We have a wide range of ages represented from 18 year-old trainees, through a large number of ‘twenty-somethings’ through to more experienced senior staff.

The team have an active social life and there are regular social get-togethers, either arranged at an office level, or informally by the team.

The Birmingham office is a growing office and there is a regular flow of new clients being brought on-board, particularly in the mid-corporate space, which adds interest to all of our lives.  There is a significant opportunity in Birmingham for us to grow our client base and get involved in interesting advisory projects due to the strength and size of the local economy and also the consolidation in the accounting market which has reduced the number of mid-tier competitors represented locally.

We are also increasingly getting involved with cross-office projects and working with our colleagues at Baker Tilly International on international work.  The Midlands is a hotspot for inward investment from countries such as the US, Canada, Germany and so on and therefore joined-up international advice is of increasing importance.

We are keen to recruit new team members who are driven and have an interest in being exposed to new challenges, new clients and new people, and indeed who want to help us grow the local business.

John Rossiter

Director – Indirect Tax

John has over 24 years of experience advising clients on VAT and other indirect tax matters and brings a wealth of experience to the team having worked in the UK, Ireland and Canada.

John works with businesses of all sizes from owner managed to listed multi-nationals in a broad range of industry sectors. He has a particular focus on supply chain and international indirect tax matters, real estate and construction, financial services, and tax risk management. 

A key part of John’s role is to leverage the international expertise that is available to all MHA MacIntyre Hudson clients through the Baker Tilly International network, so no matter where our clients operate or trade, they have access to the professional services and support that they need to succeed.

As Senior Partner with over 25 year’s experience of advising clients, this has given Stuart the confidence and experience to deal with many complex and difficult situations. Helping hard working clients reward themselves plays an important part in Stuart’s strategy as is helping his owner- managed clients grow and develop their businesses.

With a reputation for driving business forward and identifying areas to maximise company wealth, Stuart’s clients continuously profit from his tenacious and energetic approach to business.  Constantly looking at “the bottom line” and the cash requirements has helped to turn around a number of businesses, resulting in clients being able to achieve their commercial and family goals and ambitions.

In addition he is a fully trained Lexcel Consultant and is an active member of the firm’s Legal Sector group.  With the advent of Academies, Stuart has been able to use his extensive knowledge regarding education, gained from the Grant Maintained initiative of the 1990’s, to advise schools and help make their transition to Academy status a seamless process.

Stuart has a keen interest in Cloud Accounting and Technology Sectors, advising clients on the best way forward using the various software packages and Apps available.

Nigel May

Nigel has over twenty years experience in offering proactive tax advice to the firm's diverse range of clients.

As both a graduate in law and a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation and the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners, Nigel covers a wide spectrum of tax issues, both corporate and personal.

He regularly lectures on a diverse range of taxation matters including: budget commentaries, self assessment and tax and financial planning.

Nigel relishes the problem-solving aspects of advising on taxation issues, seeking to recommend solutions that achieve the best conclusion from both a commercial and a taxation viewpoint.

Chris Blundell

Partner

Chris has almost 30 years experience in the field of tax advice having joined what was then the Inland Revenue from Manchester University via BT. Since then in his time at both KPMG and Ernst and Young, he has worked with businesses large and small, listed and private, UK-based and international.

He has worked with companies and organisations in all sectors: large insurance companies, international technology companies and hotel and leisure companies to name a few. He heads up the Technology group in London and works with Technology companies large and small on all tax and financial matters that affect such companies at different stages of their growth cycle. He advises his clients on all manner of UK and overseas taxes that affect them and their employees through their employment of staff, both senior and junior. Issues like share incentives, the operation of PAYE, the application of National Insurance, the Construction Industry Scheme and company car fleet taxation are familiar territory for him.

Chris joined Maclntyre Hudson in 2011 from Mazars LLP where he headed up their London Employment Tax Services team. He is a Chartered Tax Adviser and a member of the Chartered Institute of Tax.

Outside work he has the cross to bear of being an avid supporter of West Ham football club. He carries this burden with characteristic equanimity and good humour.
