Life at the Chelmsford office

 

Our office sits in the heart of Chelmsford’s vibrant city centre. With everything you need being just a 5-minute walk away, it’s an ideal office location for all ages. Chelmsford boasts three shopping centres and a bustling high-street with offerings from designer brands to market bargains. Lunchtimes can be spent indulging in some retail therapy or relaxing beside a lake in one of the many parks. Central Park is a short walk away and has many beautifully planted areas to explore and enjoy the local wildlife. 

Being in the city centre means that exciting social events are regularly held. Chelmsford is home to an excellent theatre, two cinemas, numerous festivals of the year, countless bars and an ever-growing number of dining spots – there is something for everyone!

Being one of the smaller offices at MHA MacIntyre Hudson with around 30 members of staff, our office is a friendly and welcoming environment where the whole team are approachable and regularly support each other. We are an open plan office with an open-door policy, making communication and teamwork one of our biggest strengths. The office atmosphere is fun and sociable, ensuring that new team members easily integrate and form strong friendships.

The Chelmsford office appreciates a regular flow of new clients from local businesses, schools and charities which strengthens our position in the local market and the not for profit sector. We specialise in the not for profit sector and as an office have an interest in helping to support local causes. We also work with a number of London based companies due to Chelmsford’s convenient location within the commuter belt, adding to the continued growth of our office. Increasingly we are getting involved with cross-office projects, working with our colleagues in London and more globally at Baker Tilly International.

Steve Locke

Audit & Accounts Supervisor

Steve has been with MHA Macintyre Hudson since 2011 where he joined as a school leaver. In this time he has completed both his AAT and ACA qualifications with the firm and swiftly progressed to the level of audit and accounts supervisor. Steve has been working locally in the Essex market, expanding his experience into a variety of sectors and business sizes.

Steve has significant experience with a number of clients in the Not-for-Profit sector, including Independent Schools and Academies, working closely with them to provide audit, assurance and statutory accounts preparation services. He is committed to developing strong working relationships with clients and colleagues alike, and prides himself on the long-standing working relationships he has developed, especially with the local Academies which he has been involved with for multiple years.

Steve has also gained extensive experience and knowledge with Small to Medium owner managed businesses. With these he has covered a variety of services, most notably in the audit and compliance field. His role extends beyond compliance where he also ensures that he is able to answer client queries and provide valuable advice on subjects such as VAT, accounting and bookkeeping.

As Director of Audit and Business Services, Mark has a wide range of expertise across a number of sectors with a particular specialism in the not for profit and education sectors, where he has over 15 years experience.  Mark works very closely with our Academy, Free School and FE college clients and  has built up excellent relationships and is the first point of contact for all his clients.

James Meek

Business Services Assistant Manager

James joined MHA MacIntyre Hudson in 2006 and has obtained both his AAT and ACA qualifications with the firm.  He is based in MHA MacIntyre Hudson’s Chelmsford office.

He works closely with many Not for Profit entities, including Charities and Academies, providing them with a range of business services, including Independent Examinations, accounts preparation and compliance returns.

James is a recognised financial reporting specialist in the Sector with a strong understanding of both the Charities SORP and the Academies Accounts Direction.  Drawing from this experience he built the internal accounts production toolkits the firm uses to produce Charity and Academy financial statements.  He has also advised on updates to external Charity and Academy accounts production toolkits and regularly consults with the ESFA on varying compliance matters, including taking part in user testing of new online systems.

James considers himself to be a problem solver and genuinely enjoys finding answers to complicated accounting issues.  He prides himself on delivering practical, timely and accurate advice to his clients in a language and manner they can understand. 

Outside of work James enjoys spending time with his family and trying to cook them a decent meal.

Chris Sutton

Head of Leisure & Hospitality, Partner

Chris has worked with clients at every stage of the business growth cycle: from start-up through to flotation. Heading our Hospitality and Leisure team, Chris has a number of clients across the sector including hotels and restaurants.  

He is heavily involved with his clients’ affairs, the large majority of which are owner-managed family businesses. He is a hands-on adviser and enjoys the variety of challenges offered by working in public practice, bringing over 35 years experience.  Chris’s portfolio of clients also includes a number of large groups both in the UK and overseas.
