Life at the Maidstone office

 

Our two Kent offices work very closely together with flexibility across both our Maidstone and Canterbury offices to meet the needs of the clients and to support colleagues. Our staff members are friendly, supportive and always willing to help each other. They work as a team and have an active social life, organising regular get-togethers and outings.

Our offices vary in design, but both reflect MHA MacIntyre Hudson’s historic roots and clear focus on the future. Maidstone is a modern, open plan office in the centre of a lively town. The layout of the office means that the teams naturally collaborate effectively, and it is easy to approach anyone with questions. Our office in Canterbury is a recently refurbished, stately looking townhouse within walking distance of the city centre. Lunchtimes can be spent exploring Canterbury’s many winding paths and charming cafes.

With specialists across sectors such as Education, Not for Profit, Healthcare, Manufacturing and Construction, as well as services such as Private Tax, Indirect Tax and Human Capital Advisory, we offer our private and corporate clients the highest level of expertise and service. Due to Kent’s easy transport links to Paris and as a key UK gateway to trading in Europe, many of our clients have international interests and we look forward to continuing our global focus.

We have grown significantly over the last five years and now number nearly 100 people across both offices, ranging from secretaries and support staff to trainees, managers and Partners. Stephen Askew

Partner

Stephen joined MHA MacIntyre Hudson when the Kent offices of Haines Watts merged with the firm in 2018 having formerly ran a practice for 30 years. 

Stephen specialises in providing business strategy advice to owner managed businesses and has trained with a variety of leading consultants to specialise in Business Development.  

His advice comes not just from his background as a Chartered Accountant but from learning and developing other skills relevant to running a successful business.

Stephen has also undertaken a number of speaking roles and lectured on finance both in the UK and overseas for a management school running Institute of Management qualifications.

He volunteers as a National Councillor for the South East Region for the Federation of Small Businesses, a role that places him in a position to help small businesses.

Outside of work it is about the family, travel and sailing being the proud owner of a ten metre yacht.

Donna Dallas

Senior Manager

Donna started work as a trainee accountant in 2006, having completed a degree in accounting and finance at the University of Kent. After qualifying in 2011, and following the merger of the partnership she previously worked for, Donna has progressed from Supervisor through to Senior Manager. 

She has her own portfolio of clients specialising in small to medium sized owner managed businesses in a range of different industries. She has built up a good rapport with her clients and prides herself on maintaining long standing relationships, having worked with a number of clients for over ten years.

Donna is methodical in her approach and likes to help clients to achieve their goals. She provides ongoing financial advice to her clients aiding them to interpret financial information that can influence their strategic development, in addition to general compliance and preparation of quarterly / annual financial statements.

Fiona Howard

Business Services & Tax Manager

Fiona joined MHA MacIntyre Hudson in 2018 following the merger of her previous firm.

She has over 14 years’ experience working in the accounting industry and is both a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Advisor, providing her with unique insight into helping Owner Managed Businesses and Entrepreneurs develop and grow their companies.  

Fiona has considerable experience helping her clients put in place cloud accounting systems and enabling them to utilise the information generated to make business decisions. As well as advising her clients on potential tax planning strategies that are relevant to them, including EIS scheme set ups, research and development, inheritance tax planning, and family investment companies, empowering Entrepreneurs to fulfil their business goals in the most tax efficient way possible.

Additionally, Fiona has extensive experience advising individuals and companies under HMRC investigation.

Fiona takes pride in helping local businesses connect and grow together and she is a proud winner of Kent Women in Business Award ‘Woman in Finance’ 2017.

In her spare time she enjoys time in the countryside or on the beach with her partner and two dogs.

Mel Lake

Senior Manager

Mel qualified in February 2009 and joined the firm the same year. She is an experienced audit manager working throughout the Kent region, with a wide range of clients over various sectors including not for profit and owner managed companies. 

Her role involves working closely with the dedicated client partner and team to provide an audit with the highest levels of assurance and minimum disruption possible. 

Mel’s approach to work is to deliver a well-planned and efficient audit and encourage the development of a supportive and communicative relationship to her clients so that they feel comfortable to make contact with any queries during the course of the year not just at the audit.
