Our specialist motor team provides up-to-date, accurate, concise and tailored advice, services and solutions to many UK dealer groups. Our specialists are trusted advisers to many motor dealer groups, supporting them on aspects of ECOS, PAYE, capital allowance and corporate finance.

With a proactive approach and extensive knowledge of the industry, we provide thought leadership and remain at the forefront of key issues facing the sector. We also run sector-specific and focused update events, such as the MHA Motor FD Forum and the Berkhamstead Motor Club. This enables us to actively engage with owners of retail groups, manufacturers and other advisers in the sector on a broad range of business issues, identifying ways to proactively support them with their strategic, operational, cost reduction, risk and compliance agendas.

  • Tax planning and compliance: we are tax advisers to 100+ motor dealers and manufacturers, including many Top 50 dealer groups.
  • Capital Allowances (CA): we have the UK’s leading motor CA specialist in our team maximising allowances on dealers’ historic and current property acquisitions and expenditures.
  • Transactional tax advice and exit planning: ensuring the right operational and entity structure for our clients, including their trading and property interests.
  • Shareholder wealth and inheritance tax planning: tax-efficient extraction of wealth for dealership owners.
  • Employment taxes and company cars: supporting you with issues such as car averaging, establishing employee car ownership schemes, worker status, and travel and subsistence.
  • VAT planning and compliance: working with you on cases of HMRC litigation, partial exemption, finance and insurance income, Motability, dealer discounts and other specific motor VAT issues
  • Strategic and corporate finance support: sale and acquisition, restructuring, refinancing, operational and business strategy reviews to help your dealership grow.
  • Business support: providing health checks, deal file and month-end reporting, and other process reviews, including FCA and cyber security.

Partner

Martin joined MHA MacIntyre Hudson in 2017 having spent 16 years working in the assurance team of a top 5 firm and having been in the profession for 27 years.  Martin deals with a mixed portfolio of clients but has particular sector specialisms in healthcare and professional practices. 

In addition to his audit and accounting work Martin has been involved in many other areas of advice such as in the areas of client money accounting and the related regulatory issues, mergers and acquisitions particularly in the professional’s space, funding, business structuring and incorporations, benchmarking and so on.

Martin’s preferred way of working is through face to face client relationships where he has the opportunity to really understand the clients business and offer support and advice based on both the personal and corporate aspirations of the client.

Outside of work Martin is married with three children who keep him busy.  He is also a keen cyclist and enjoys a day’s fly fishing when the weather is fair.

Rachel Nutt

Rachel is a Chartered Tax Adviser, a specialist in providing tax planning advice to entrepreneurs' businesses. Rachel is a firm believer that to provide advice that is effective she has to really understand her client's business, personal goals and aspirations.

As well as heading up the firms Renewable and Sustainable Energy Sector, Rachel has extensive experience in Motor, Agriculture and Manufacturing & Engineering sectors.  Much of Rachel's time is spent on transactional work both in the UK and internationally.

She re-joined MacIntyre Hudson's tax department in September 2005 after a period working with a finance house in London, providing sophisticated tax planning products to high net worth individuals and large owner managed businesses.

Mandy MacKinnon

Business Solutions Manager

Mandy is an experienced chartered accountant and business strategist who excels at advising clients to overcome growth and profitability issues. As a founder member of the Firm’s Business Strategy Group, formed in 2001, Mandy has worked with a wide variety of SMEs from a range of sectors over the years. Business owners and management teams have benefitted from her help with developing robust strategic plans that have improved the value of their businesses.

Building on her experience and understanding of the needs of SMEs, Mandy has developed a successful “Understanding Finance” workshop which focusses on delivering personalised one to one or team training sessions to SMEs. These bespoke workshops offer clients a greater understanding of their own accounts and help them both in planning the strategic direction and in making the right commercial decisions for their business. The training is particularly popular with the second generation in family businesses or with new directors who are not fully confident in their ability to review financial information. Mandy believes it is not enough to just write a plan; to succeed it must be lived as well. The support she provides is geared to bridge that implementation gap.

As a member of Mindshop, a strategic leadership training organisation which operates globally, Mandy has access to a vast array of business tools and planning techniques that compliment her own training programmes. She is also an accredited growth coach with the Growth Accelerator service.
